



Symmetry is one of the first big ideas in geometry — and it is everywhere, from butterfly wings and snowflakes to letters, flags and faces. A shape is symmetric when one part is a perfect mirror image of another. In Mirror Master you complete half-finished pictures by reflecting them across a line of symmetry: look at the coloured side, picture its mirror image, and paint it in. As you progress you meet shapes with several lines of symmetry (four-fold) and even rotational symmetry, where a picture matches itself when you turn it. Every puzzle trains the same powerful skill — visualising a transformation in your mind before you make it real.
Recognising and creating symmetry builds spatial reasoning — the ability to picture and manipulate shapes mentally, which research links strongly to overall success in maths, science and engineering. It also lays the groundwork for later topics: reflections, rotations and translations on the coordinate plane, tessellations, and the symmetry that runs through art, design, biology and physics. Practising it young makes all of that feel natural.

Many shapes have more than one line of symmetry — a square has four, a circle has infinitely many.
A shape has rotational symmetry if it looks the same after being turned part-way around (e.g. 180°).
Reflecting flips every point across a line to the same distance on the other side — the picture, mirrored.
The simplest symmetry test: imagine folding the picture along a line. If the two halves land exactly on top of each other, that line is a line of symmetry. Mirror Master turns that fold into a painting task — you build the second half yourself.
Symmetry is not just left-and-right. A picture can be symmetric top-to-bottom, along a diagonal, or in all four quarters at once. Spotting every mirror line is a puzzle in itself — and the game gradually reveals them all.
Some shapes have no mirror line yet still look "balanced" — because they have rotational symmetry: turn them halfway around and they match. Learning to see turning symmetry as well as flipping symmetry is a big step toward geometric transformations.
